President's Message

Welcome to the California Police Chiefs Association’s website. Our Association is comprised of 1500 active and retired municipal California Police Chiefs as well as seconds in command. California municipal police chiefs are responsible for leading 329 police departments statewide, and for providing front line law enforcement services to nearly 29 million residents (over 78 percent of the population). It is a responsibility in which we take great pride each and every day. Our website was established as a tool to increase the accessibility of consistent, accurate, and timely information to our members, as well as the opportunity to showcase some of the outstanding, innovative work being done daily in our communities.

We work tirelessly on behalf of our members and our communities to help shape public policy, provide professional development, and enhance the image of the profession in positive and meaningful ways. Our active engagement on issues of public safety policy has allowed the Association to effectively shape legislation that impacts legal, social, and budgetary issues. Cal Chiefs also provides the most contemporary training available to law enforcement leaders statewide - ensuring our members remain current, and that the next generation of California's law enforcement executives are well prepared. Additionally, we continue to expand our media outreach and impact.

California continues to experience the most significant shift in public safety policy in a generation with Realignment. We are committed to engaging our communities, our elected officials, our public safety partners, and academic researchers to ensure front line law enforcement has the tools and resources available to provide effective public safety to the communities we serve.

It is my privilege to serve as President of the California Police Chiefs Association, and I look forward to working with our members and our partners to enhance public safety throughout California.

Christopher W. Boyd

President
